I’m Calie, a senior UX designer.

I’ve spent more than seven years designing journeys, portals and internal tools, from understanding the problem to measuring the result. I started out designing websites, so I design with the build in mind and work closely with developers to get things shipped.

Experience
CEL Solicitors, Liverpool
Lead UX Designer
2023 to 2026
I led UX and visual design in a team with a developer, a paid ads manager and an SEO specialist, covering the firm’s website and the tools clients use. My focus was the claims journey: ad landing pages, claim form, evidence portal and help centre. I made research, testing and accessibility part of how we worked, with A/B tests on the key service pages and work towards WCAG 2.1 compliance. You can see how I approached it in the claims journey case study.
Freelance clients, remote
Senior UX Designer
2021 to 2023
I worked as an independent UX partner to SaaS and e-commerce clients, turning audits into clear priorities and taking the design through to the final UI. The work centred on mobile usability and search visibility.
Esoko, Accra
UX Designer
2018 to 2020
I worked in the engineering team with software developers and product managers in Agile sprints, designing the platform from the start. It had two parts: a web app for managing surveys, dashboards and reports, and a mobile app field agents used to collect data. It was used in several countries across Africa, including for census and market price data collection. I also built and maintained the design system, and ran usability testing that shaped how features rolled out.
Universal Merchant Bank, Accra
UX Designer, contract
2019
I designed a role-based approval system to replace the bank’s paper forms, working with one developer. After a two-week pilot at one branch it was approved for five more, and I trained staff at each. You can see how I approached it in the bank approvals case study.
Hubtel, Accra
Senior Web Designer
2016 to 2018
I worked on the UX and interface design of Hubtel’s web apps for small businesses, including a point-of-sale system, a checkout platform, an SMS platform for advertising and a customer management system. I also worked on some of their mobile apps.
How I work
Start with what people do
I’d rather watch people use something than guess. Interviews, observation, session recordings and contact logs come before any screens.
Agree the problem first
Audits, journey maps and service blueprints, so the team agrees on what we’re fixing before we design it.
Design what can be built
Information architecture, content, interaction and visual design in Figma, with accessibility from the start. Built alongside developers, not thrown over the wall.
Prove it honestly
A/B tests with the metric and sample size fixed before launch, and every result labelled by how it was measured.
